What do you do when a pandemic disrupts your business? Pivot!
Last year, we shot lots of events. We made corporate videos and films with various crews and cast members. We captured dozens of headshots and portraits. And we met with clients in-person all the time. Remember handshakes? Gross.
But 2020 has really complicated things, forcing us to branch out a little and also revisit some areas of photography and video production that we haven’t really prioritized before.
Why Lifestyle Brand Photography?
Lifestyle brand photography makes sense for us in 2020.
We’re not shooting event photography lately. No events are happening. Plus the thought of being in a hotel ballroom with 200+ people is nauseating!
We haven’t been hosting clients in our studio. There are just too many things that could go wrong. Who knows where each other has really been… or who we’ve been exposed to and who they’ve been exposed to, and so on.
Lifestyle brand photography became ideal for us to continue our career behind-the-camera and keep the creative juices flowing.
Items can be sanitized. Our dog, my wife and people close to us can be models. All client interactions can happen with calls, texts, emails and video chats. The perfect situation.
Is this the end of Video Production as we know it?
Some major productions has resumed. But Robert Pattinson just got COVID-19 while filming the newest Batman movie in the UK. A crew member of a State Farm commercial in Austin, Texas was infected on-set and just passed away from it. This coronavirus is real and we take it seriously.
We’re being very selective about the corporate video production opportunities that are available. There are legitimate safety concerns and we understand our responsibility to our families and the community. Not to mention science. Science is for real, y’all.
We have done two shoots this pandemic outside of our quarantine bubble. Only two. In six months. But we wore masks, sanitized everything repeatedly, socially distanced, well-vetted skeleton crew, no one extra hanging out on set, etc.
Video Editing is the new black
Speaking of how lifestyle brand photography can be pandemic-safe, video editing is another ideal type of project for 2020.
We’ve brushed up our skills in Adobe After Effects and took on a few clients for 2D character animation and other types of eLearning videos.
While operating cameras, lights and microphones is our first love, we’re still able to tell stories and entertain audiences with After Effects animation and motion graphics. Plus, once life resumes we’ll have another polished skillset to incorporate in our footage-based corporate video production.
Back to the cute dog. What’s that all about?
Our handsome little boy Milo is already an accomplished Instagram personality and model. @chillbromilo
He has attracted his share of brands and offers. Now that we have the time, we’re accepting opportunities to showcase his adorability. Like this post about our Cove brand photography.
Bernie’s Perfect Poop, makers of a canine dietary supplement, contacted us for some lifestyle brand photography. We’re happy to share some of the results below.
