Clint found me on Yelp as he was planning his proposal to Maegen. We exchanged a couple quick messages and the plan came together nicely. We set a time to meet and he provided a map to this little spot in La Jolla. It was near Bird Rock but not nearly as popular or crowded.
At first we did have some other people around, so I had to get creative with the angles. Also since this was a surprise engagement shoot, Maegen didn’t know what was about to happen, so I had to blend in and sort of creep on them with a long telefoto lens. But once people cleared out a little, he took a knee and popped the question as I snapped away to capture her authentic reaction.
After that we did some quick posed shots as the sun faded over the ocean. The waves were huge that evening, splashing up on the cliff and soaking everyone around. It was a very dramatic and wild natural background.
We walked back up to the street only to find he had another trick up his sleeve… a white 1960 Rolls Royce Cloud complete with a driver and champagne!
Here are some of my favorites from the shoot. Click a photo to launch the slideshow.

He didn't make anything feel forced or staged. I am really, really happy with the pictures he took because they came out looking very natural.
Brendan was so personable and easy going while maintaining the utmost professionalism, which was a nice change from photographers I've worked with in the past.
