Description

I produce a lot of videos for ICW Group, the largest B2B insurance provider in California who also does business in 20+ other states. Working closely with HR and and their Talent Acquisition team, we interviewed a selection of team members in a cyclorama video production studio.

Above are two videos; each came about differently.

For the first video, promoting the Claims Academy, I worked on the pre-production planning, set the cameras, audio and lighting ahead of time… then in the very morning on the day of the shoot, my son was born! So I was certainly not present for the shoot, but arranged for the team to handle it without me. I had done so much prep that it was essentially turn-key for them.

A HMUA (hair & makeup artist) gave them the full treatment before starting their interviews. As is my standard practice now, this shoot was meant to cover the main topic but also gather footage for future videos on a variety of topics; making the best use of their time and production costs – an idea I pitched for previous projects.

Video two, promoting Insurance Careers Month, is a prime example of repurposing footage. I leveraged footage from previous recruiting videos to assemble this edit. You might recognize someone in this video; me! After assembling the clips, I thought there were some holes content-wise and also a lack of flow from one topic to the next. So I set up the cameras to do a “self-tape.” Originally it was meant to hone in on the missing content, but the clients loved it so I made my on-camera debut for this company. Performance-wise I kept it imperfect so as to be more believable and match the delivery of others in that video.

This was a 4-camera shoot using Canon C400, C80 and C70 cinema cameras, a range of lenses, and a Sennheiser shotgun boom mic routed into a Zoom Fn8 Pro then to each camera as well. We monitored the 4 cameras via SUMO 19 monitors with multi-view; checking each camera with a single glance. We also ran timecode to sync the cameras and audio recorder.

Audio production is incredibly important in having an effective, professional video. I leveraged an audio production tool called iZotope to clean up noise from the building’s air conditioning, remove a little reverb from the large room, and optimize their voices. The final sound mix includes music from Artlist.io.

Finally, I designed and animated the motion graphics which include brief clips from their previous videos to showcase a people-centered company, furthering the recruiting efforts.

For posting on YouTube, I designed and split-tested three thumbnails for each video to help get more clicks and views.
